1) Planning

One of the most important things before moving into your new accommodation in France is to plan early in order to evaluate everything and prevent any issues from cropping up. Creating an early plan will mean you can explore the options of different removal companies and compare them to choose the best one for you. For instance, it is suitable to choose removal companies that have labels such as the FIDI, BAR overseas moving group or even better, ISO registration.

.

Choosing the appropriate removal company is indeed of major importance and you have to keep in mind that some companies are not who they pretend to be: some removal companies are actually only middlemen for another removal company. Therefore you must find out as much as possible about these companies (if they have their own vehicles for example) in order to avoid disappointment.

.

2) The children (family or dependents)

Being motivated is not enough; you have to make sure that your family or the people you are travelling with are in the same state of mind as you. If you have children, you should talk to them to make sure they don’t have any concerns or particular fears. They will probably be a little apprehensive as it is natural for young ones, but if it’s only a little fear you don’t have to worry too much about it.Moreover children are far more adaptable than adults as they will no doubt find new friends at school and  can learn the language faster than adults.

Involving them in the process of planning can help them feel more comfortable about the idea of moving. For instance, let them take what they want so theyfeel at home in their new house.

.

3) Packing

The important thing is to arrive in France with all the furniture you brought over from the UK, in the same condition and without any damage. Choosing the right international removal company as previously stated is fundamental but it is not the only aspect to take care of. Wrapping your furniture properly is paramount to avoid any breakages some items such as furniture could be wrapped in padded blankets for instance. However, nowadays numerous companies offer  various services, like packing your possessions, transporting them, cleaning your new accommodation and then unpack for you. Nevertheless all these services are considered as extra costs.

4) Insurance

Transporting your goods overseas will always be risky and therefore, it is vital to make sure you are covered for your goods and the cost of the shipment itself. However, some goods are not covered and keep in mind that you may have to face this risk but it is up to you to reduce it as much as possible.

5) Payments

Some companies might ask you to pay before leaving the UK, this is common so don’t worry. However you must request a guarantee through a bond. In recent years  some issues have arisen  concerning certain removal companies who did not fulfil their obligations, with customers having to reorganize their moving because they didn’t have an appropriate guarantee.
