The 41st Edition of Paris’ Autumn Festival started in September and last until December.

This Festival was founded in 1972 by Michel Guy, with President Georges Pompidou’s support. The President wanted to create a festival that would compete with those of Berlin, Amsterdam, Vienna, and Venice.

Theater, music, dance, visual arts, and film

This festival marks the start of Paris’ cultural season and the return of Parisians from their summer holidays. Dedicated to contemporary arts, it includes theater, music, dance, visual arts, and film.

First, it consisted of two existing events, Semaines Musicales Internationales and the Festival of International Dance, with theater and art exhibitions. It now includes photography, film, and other contemporary arts on an international scale.

It presents experimental approaches raised by commands passed to creators. Every year, the Festival presents over forty events, attracting a total of more than 100,000 spectators. It became one of the most important Festivals in Europe and is considered as a “Bridge between New York and Paris”, culturally speaking. Events are held in many locations in Paris, such as the Pompidou Center, the Théâtre de Chaillot, and the Théâtre des Champs Elysées. Those are notably some of the most exceptional areas to live in and enjoy the most of Paris.

If you are in the market for a property in Paris, and want to be close to all cultural events then you are in for a pleasant surprise. As normally one of more expensive locations in Paris, the 16th district is actually the only one in Paris where the price per square meters did not increase during the last 3 months, implying that it might be the best time to invest there. So here is our property pick, close to the Festival, a Stunning apartment, 16th District, 2 steps from Place de l’Etoile.

Alain Crombecque became the Director of the Festival after the death of Michel Guy in 1990. Pierre Richard is Chairman of the Board of the Festival and Pierre Bergé is Chairman of the Board of “Les Amis du Festival d’Automne à Paris”.

This Festival is a non-profit organization and is organized with the backing and support of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Paris City Council, the Regional Council of Greater Paris, plus friends and sponsors. The House of Yves Saint Laurent regularly supports the Autumn Festival with direct financial aid or by supporting shows. The Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent Foundation also became, in 2010, Grand Patron of the Autumn Festival in Paris.
