Neuvic is a pretty market village in the Dordogne department, in Nouvelle Aquitaine region. The village of Neuvic is built around the Church with its spire that towers over the village. There are a number of small shops, bakers, a chemist and post office within the village and there is a market every week. The main market day is Saturday, but there is a small market on Tuesday as well. Neuvic is easy to access, with a number of major airports within an hour and a half from the village. The lake at Neuvic hosts many water sports such as kayaking, canoeing, electric boating and fishing too. Should you wish to relax and soak up the history of the area, why not hire a car and travel a few miles out of the village to see the nearby Castles; Le Chateau de Biron and Le Chateau de Bourdeilles?
Access
This area can probably boast the best and easiest access from points across the UK and Ireland. The international airport of Bordeaux is just an hour away, while Bergerac International Airport is only 30 minutes away. Limoges is only 90 minutes from the heart of the region and the forthcoming International airport at Brive la Gaillarde will be 50 minutes drive from the town centre of Neuvic sur L’Isle when opened shortly. These routes continue to expand and with this flexibility, cheap prices can always be found giving affordable access to the area from almost anywhere in the UK.
Activities
Neuvic has many sporting activities on offer, and is very well located for golf courses in particular (you have the choice of two 9-hole courses). Golf lessons are available, as is the ‘’pitch and putt’’ facility. Water sports (kayaking, canoeing, electric boating) and other leisure activities such as fishing are on offer nearby where there is a 450 hectare lake. Cycling, horse riding and tennis are on offer too, so it is unlikely you’ll be stuck for things to do! There is a fantastic street market in the town every Tuesday and Saturday morning.
Food and drink
The local cuisine is based on time-honoured local recipes and produce, such as chestnuts, walnuts and cep mushrooms in the autumn, and strawberries in April, in addition to the area’s renowned truffles and foies gras, perhaps bought from a farmer at a duck and goose market (marché au gras) in winter.
