Bugeat

Bugeat is a village of Corrèze department, in the middle of Nouvelle Aquitaine region. It is located on the plateau des Millevaches, or des Milles Sources, and is an ideal place for relaxing and for nature lovers.

Access

By train, it takes about 4h30 to get to Bugeat from Paris.
By car, from Paris, take the A20 motorway towards Toulouse, exit at Eymoutiers towards Bugeat.
From Toulouse, take the A20 motorway towards Paris, then A89 towards Clermont Ferrand, exit at Meymac towards Bugeat.
From Bordeaux, take the A89 towards Clermont Ferrand, exit at Meymac towards Bugeat.
From Clermont Ferrand, take the A89 highway towards Bordeaux, exit at Meymac towards Bugeat.
Brive, Limoges and Clermont Ferrand airports are the closest to Bugeat.

History

The name comes from the Celtic noun “Buga” which probably means “wildland” and proves then that people have been living in this area for a very long time. During the Gallo Roman period, at least 2 villas are known to have existed on the current land of the city: “Le Champ du Palais” and “La Ganette”. Under the Ancien Regime, the city was shared between Marche and Limousin: the frontier divided the village into two parts following the line of the Turgotiere street.

Activities

Bugeat is ideal for relaxing or nature holidays. Hiking activities are available thanks to the village’s 150km marked way, its green environment, country roads… Its alevin rivers and streams also attracts lots of fishing lovers. Bugeat’s Holiday Centre also provides a range of facilities for archery, swimming, children entertainment, tennis. In Bugeat, the “Comité des fêtes”, “Foyer culturel”, Tourist Home and other associations organise all year diverse activities: annual August fair with parades of floats full of flowers, fireworks, shows, balls, concerts, exhibitions, canoeing on the Viam lake. The first Thursday of August, la “Journée du Goût” (Day of the Flavour) takes place and offers regional products, exhibitions, conferences…

Food and Drink

“L’Escargot Corrézien” (snails from Corrèze): Tasting on the Plateau de Millevaches, during the fair in Bugeat every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Also, Truite Fario (Brown trout), truite Arc en Ciel (Rainbow trout) and Ombres de Fontaine (Speckled trout) are bred in Bugeat and are popular for their white flesh.
