Matha is located in the Charente Maritime département (17), in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region, where the famous beverages Cognac and Pineau are elaborated. It is a calm, charming and lively place where you will be able to discover the Roman art, local food and nature activities.

There are lots of activities to take part in in Matha, as it is surrounded by nature. There are lots of pedestrian and horse paths in the hinterland.
As the city has a rich cultural heritage, there is a lot to see in the city: roman churches, porches, rich houses, fountains, wash houses, castles, etc. There are organised walks and tours to visit the city and its surroundings.
Not far from Matha, you can visit a strong taste village, producing mustard! You will be astonished by the variety of their products, ranging from classic mustard, to chocolate mustard!
There is also a Hippie Festival in Matha, taking place every year in August.
The region is famous for the Foie gras and Magret de canard (duck recipes). But there are other local food and dishes such as fresh fish, cheese, wine, veal and of course Cognac and Pineau.
