Vimoutiers is a commune set in the countryside of the Pays D’Auge which is in the Normandy region of the Orne department in Northern France. The commune only became known as “Vimoutiers” in the 19th century despite going under similar names since the 16th century.

History
The oldest monument in the area dates back to the 9th century. The “Eglise du Pont de Vie” was constructed on the banks of the river and was a frequent stopping point for pilgrims making their way over to Mont Saint Michel on the North coast. This church was continuously built and renovated over the ages. The church was expanded in the 13th century and 16th centuries with the last major renovation to the edifice coming in the 19th century. The neo gothic church at Vimoutiers was built in the 19th century, replacing the 15th century chrch that has previously stood here.
Sights
In the Vimoutiers area, there are a few tourist attractions which are exceedingly popular.
