Good weather, good atmosphere and good sounds for the Fete de La Musique!
On the 21st of June, the Fete de la Musique will be organised all over the French territory like every year. The specificity of this date is that it is the largest day of the year in the northern hemisphere and of course, the summer day! Good weather, good atmosphere and good music are expected, once again, for the 33e edition of this event.
Originally, the World Music day has been created in 1982, by Jack Lang, the Culture Minister, in order to promote this art through all population class, through all kind of music (from jazz to rock, through traditional music, from classic music to electro music, through Bossa Nova), creating thus a large diversity in kind of music. The objective is to democratise the art of music and make easier the access to this art. This success keeps growing and gaining in importance all over the world.
The concept of this event is to gather people around a common interest: the music and the party. Every inhabitant of every village, in towns or big cities, goes out on this night to play music, dance or sing for the shortest night of the year. Amateur or professional in the music area, all instrument players are welcomed in the streets, getting a stand for the occasion or just playing in a park. The Fete de La Musique permits a large range of musician to express themselves: from the single person, to the national orchestra, followed by associations, charity organisations, bands, including mates rehearsing in a garage, all of them will obtain their stand for the 21st of June night. Also, they are joined by all the spectators, eager to spend all their night dancing and listening to new kind of music. As it is free entrance, they can stroll from stand to stand, enjoying typical food from the village.
“Fete de la musique” is also the homophone for « Faites de la musique » which literally means « Make music ». The happiness is all around, including Belgium, Switzerland and Germany. Until in South America, the Fete de la Musique is celebrated. Thanks to the Medias, the regional government support and larger and larger adherence from people, the success is growing. Societal phenomenon, the celebration happens in more than 100 countries. In France, it is part of the French culture, one of the most famous and popular events in the summer.
