Events in the region of Cognac
The famous drink Cognac is named after the French town located in Charente (16). It is a beverage made from 90% (or more) specific wine grapes. Twice distilled in copper pot stills, the wines are placed for at least two years in oak barrels to become Cognac. It is generally appriciated after a meal, to extend a convivial moment but is also used in cooking to turn a goog sauce into a perfect one.
The Cognac producing region spreads on a big part of the Charente, on the Charente-Maritime and on some parts of Dordogne and Deux-sevres. This rural area is very diverse in terms of land, displaying red soil, rocky plains and greeny valleys. In the heart of this region, we find the cities of Jarnac, Segonzac and of course Cognac.
Fine Champagne is a high-quality cognac, distilled from grapes grown in specific regions, which are Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, in western France.
The “Fete du Cognac”, in July is a festival where famous singers make a show and local dished are prepared (with Cognac!). In the middle of the place, a huge Cognac bar has pride of a place on.
In June, the “Semaine du Cognac” is a whole week during which you can discover the Cognac under lots of facets, in more than 300 restaurants, bars and wine shops.
For those who want to know more about Cognac, there is the Musee des Arts du Cognac to visit. From October 13th to 19th, it proposes a lecture about Taste and Biodiversity, but also children activities to discover tastes and senses.
