Easy Ways to Create More Living Space…
In cities, most buyers (students between others) choose to buy a small apartment. Nevertheless, living in a small apartment offering a limited floor area is quite challenge. Fortunately, there are many solutions for you to convert your French house in order to have more space as well as, a larger habitable area for no money spent! You will have more square metres available in the same place you are living so there is no need to find another place to live in France. Here are easy solutions to cope with this problem of living space:
1) One very simple solution is to make a list of all the furniture present in rooms you use very often in your house. Once this list done, you have to get rid of all that you do not require anymore. If there are clothes that have not been worn in years, please donate them. Repeat the same process for all the other things, including the kitchen closets and on/in your shelves.
2) Here is another solution which is much easier. In a small apartment, please put as much furniture as possible against the wall to allow space at the center of the room. You may realize you never walk against the wall but you cross the room frequently. This will help keep footpaths clear to make it easy to move around the limited space.
3) Measure your living space and furniture. This will allow you to test various furniture arrangements on paper to make sure they work before actually moving heavy furniture around your apartment.
4) Usually, we all purchase large furniture to organize papers, books, DVDs. To tidy them, please buy small shelves to hang them up against the wall. The more you use the wall to hang something, the larger your apartment/house will look.
And for fans of DIY…
Let’s have a close look at the living room and we will elaborate a list you may often meet in a typical French living room: sofa, seat, coffee table, TV table, carpet, furniture with drawer. Do you think we can take off one of these above? Of course, we will leave the seat and the sofa because you have to sit! In case you have too many papers to fit in small shelving, we propose you a crafty solution. Hide them inside your sofa!
Put your papers and books in boxes you would put under your sofa. Depending on the type of sofa you possess, you could always make drawers on them as pictured below:
Should you have small boxes to pack away all your belongings that were in your big furniture, now you put them in these boxes and organize under the sofa as shown on the right-hand side. But when you have no space under your sofa to put boxes, build drawers as shown on the left-hand side (drawers in grey above). Either you saw one or two drawers, or you ask a specialist for any further information. If you chose to do it yourself, don’t forget to remove part of the leather so it does not get ripped. Cut it independently and neatly, and then stick it to your drawer to look as discreet as possible. Just take your time when doing it and you will see it is very easy to maximize space. This innovative idea would not only save space but also turn out to be very useful.
These are a few solutions amongst many others… Now get to work!
