Discover Beautiful French’s South Wine Regions !
France is well known for its amazing wines, here are some of the finest South wine regions that France has to offer.
.
Bandol
Bandol is a key appellation of the Provence wine region in south-east of France. Created in 1941, the Bandol title covers red, white and rose wines from 3830 acres of vineyards around the Mediterranean town of Bandol. These are spread across eight communities, with the majority being located in the north of Bandol. Bandol is famous for its red wines. The identifying feature of a Bandol red is its high proportion of Mourvedre, a minimum of 50% is required. Bandol roses, which account for a third of the production, are known for their earthy and spicy character. They are among the more distinguished roses that France has to offer. In the Count of Monte Cristo of Alexandre Dumas, the Count famously enjoyed a glass of Bandol rose ‘bien frais‘ (Fresh). This explains the highly desirable real estate there, with villas surrounded by vineyards.
.
Provence
Cote de Provence is the largest appellation of the Provence wine region in the south-east of France. It covers 50,000 acres of vineyards.
This appellation includes most of the viticulture in the Var department, which comprises some beautiful properties where French and foreigners enjoy a nice climate in a relaxing region – essentially the eastern half of the Provence wine region. It also covers red and white wine, but 85% of Cotes de Provence’s output is rose, made predominantly from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsaut and the Provencal grape Tibouren.
.
Languedoc Roussillon
Languedoc-Roussillon is a large and diverse wine region in the south of France, covering an area from Nimes and Montpellier, the Gulf of Lyon to the Spanish border. The Master of Wine Matthew Stubbs describes it as “the most exciting and spectacular place to make wine on Earth”, and its amazing range of wines are internationally recognised by experts.
Languedoc-Roussillon is, in fact, two independent wine regions Languedoc, and Roussillon, each with its own style and character. It comprises a quarter of the wine-producing vines of France, from Clairette-based Blanquette de Limoux, the rich, sweet red wines of Banyuls, and the roses of the Cotes du Roussillon appellation.

Midi Pyrenees
The Midi Pyrenees have many wine varieties. This is not surprising with the sunny weather and excellent soil of this region.
Even the less known ones are excellent and thus it’s good to be curious when it comes to wines and South of France. The soils are very varied in the region, contributing to the production of wines with very rich flavours and tastes. Midi Pyrenees also offers outstanding liqueur drinks such as Armagnac. This region also offers 5 AOC wines. Their prices are really reasonable. The region’s best known produce are the Cahors, Fronton, Gaillac, Madiran, Pacherenc and Saint-Mont wines.
Midi Pyrenees is a region where you can enjoy having your glass of wine in front of lakes in fabulous master houses or in a fairy landscape in an amazing stone house.
