Overview
Doubs is the department that lies in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of eastern France. It is named after the Doubs River. Doubs was vital as a portal to the Switzerland that passes through Joux. Many famous personalities like Toussaint Louverture and Heinrich von Kleist were jailed in Joux. Doubs is also one of the original departments that were created during the French Revolution. It was designed as part of the former province of Franche-Comte. Doubs is a part of the current region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and is surrounded by the French departments of Jura, Haute-Saône. Quite interestingly, the place of Doubs also has the Jura Mountains that is located in the eastern part of the province.
