Only 7 miles from Val d’Isere, Sainte Foy Tarentaise is the ideal resort for experienced skiers and beginners alike, having started life as a cult, off-piste mountain. This resort is a gem in the French Alps and compared to nearby resorts it’s relatively quiet, which means fairly short waits for lifts and plenty of room on the slopes. It is a truly warm and welcoming hamlet full of charm with its clusters of chalets and chalet-style apartment blocks, all built following the traditional Savoyard architectural style of wood and stone. The centre of the village offers all necessary amenities with a choice of bars and restaurants, a newsagent and a small supermarket. Sainte Foy Tarentaise is usually open from mid-December until mid-April.

Location
Access
Sainte Foy Tarentaise is situated in the Haute-Savoie department in the French Alps. At an altitude of 1550m, Sainte-Foy is a hamlet full of authentic Alpine charm, just off the main road from Bourg St Maurice to Val d’Isere. It is around 80 minutes from Chambery airport and just over 2 hours from both Lyon and Geneva airports. Sainte Foy is ideally located only 15 minutes drive from Bourg Saint-Maurice with Eurostar connections to the UK.
It is less than half an hour’s drive from four of the best known ski resorts in France – Val d’Isere (7 miles away), Tignes, La Plagne and Les Arcs – yet it feels a million miles from the hustle and bustle of the big resorts and equally has enough skiing of its own to keep an advanced skier happy.
Activities
Located on the edge of a large forest, the residence is set in majestic surroundings with many activities to enjoy in both summer and winter.
Beginners will enjoy the excellent fenced-off nursery slope with moving carpet lifts that are free to use and can subsequently move on to a long, easy green run served by a chairlift. This lift also offers access to several other runs including a black and a red. One of the main attractions Sainte-Foy offers is unlimited and varied off-piste skiing in a beautiful unspoilt wilderness, including special zones that are avalanche controlled and the deserted hamlet of Le Monal.
In winter, you will undoubtedly enjoy skiing as well as heli-skiing, ice climbing, ski-biking and snow shoeing. In the summer months, Sainte Foy is the perfect place to escape it all. You can enjoy mountain biking, horse riding, hiking, mountain climbing, rafting, canoe rafting, canoeing, mini-golfing, tennis, paragliding, ….or even glacier skiing (in nearby Tignes). Hiking is a particularly popular activity for all age groups; you can go to Grande Sassière or other peaks surrounding Tarentaise at over 3000m altitudes. Families will particularly enjoy hiking to the listed site of Monal to discover beautifully preserved 18th and 19th century chalets.
Food & Drink
Meat and cheese feature heavily in Alpine cooking. Fondue, Raclette (hot melted cheese eaten with potatoes, meat and pickled onions) and Tartiflette are tasty treats on offer in traditional Savoryard restaurants. Other regional specialities worth trying include Savoyard wines and flavoured apples and pears.
Restaurants
L’a Coeur is well known for its excellent côte de boeuf, as well as excellent service, friendly staff and high quality food.
