Eguzon-Chantome is a village of Indre department, in the Centre region. It is located in the Boischaut-Sud nature park. Eguzon Chantome, with its lakes, rivers and forests kept the environment unspoilt and was labelled “Etape et Station verte de Vacances” (Green holiday resort).
Access
The town has its own train station.
L’Aile Bleue bus network provides connection service to the town via the J and K lines.
The closest airport is Chateauroux Centre (60km).
History
Éguzon was spelt Aiguzon until 1835. This village was part of the “Comtés de la Marche” until the French Revolution.
Activities
There is a castle in Eguzon with a park; it was built during the 12th century, was surrounded by a moat and had towers, a great gate and a drawbridge. At the beginning of the 20th century, hardly anything was left from the castle and a restoration campaign was launched in 1976. Eguzon also created a museum that tells the history of the area, the professions that do not exist anymore, and the day to day life. The edges of Eguzon Lake were converted into a beach, watched by lifeguards.
In Gargilesse, 11km from Eguzon, the traveller can visit George Sand house – a famous French writer – the Romanesque church with its crypt, the 12th century Castle of Gargilesse.
The visitor can also discover the Castle of Bonnu, Château de la Prune and Chateaubrun.
Eguzon Chantôme organise “la Fête de la châtaigne” with hiking and horse riding activities, feasts on the theme of the chestnut.
As for sports, water skiing, sailing, catamaran, fishing, hiking, cycle touring, canoeing are available activities.
Food and Drink
In Eguzon Chantome, the traveller will find specialities from the region Centre such as cheese made from goat and cow milk: Sainte-Maure de Touraine, Selles-sur-Cher, le crottin de Chavignol. Touraine lamb, géline with Orléans mustard or saffron, andouille de Jargeau, rillettes de Tours and Chartres pâté are found everywhere. The region also produces a peculiar “eau-de-vie” called Poire d’Olivet, which is distilled pear alcohol.
