Avoriaz is a French mountain resort at an altitude of 1,800m overlooking Morzine. As a part of the Portes du Soleil it has access to 650 individual slopes served by 209ski lifts. With an average of 8m of snow per winter it’s the snowiest resort in France. Its winter season runs from mid December to the end of April but is also a very popular place during the summer time.

Location
Avoriaz uses the natural shape of the mountains to create true playgrounds for beginners and advanced skiers. This is a well equipped family friendly place where children are welcomed and well catered. There is a choice of nurseries (even for young babies) and is famous for the Village des Enfants which is a true paradise for kids.
As the station is designed to be fully skiable and environmental friendly, Avoriaz is France’s first and only car-free resort! People get around here on foot, skis or by horse drawn sleighs.
Access
Avoriaz is situated in the Haute-Savoie department among the French Alps.
The nearest international airport is in Geneva about 80mins drive and the Chambery airport can be reached in about 100mins.
The cars are forbidden, so outside the resort there are 2 huge car parks where a choice of sledges and shuttles is available 7 days a week to transfer the visitors to the Avoriaz centre.
Once in the resort, there is a possibility to hire horse drawn sleighs or tracked vans to transport luggage to the accommodation.
Activities
The ski enthusiast depending on experience level, would have a choice between 5 black runs, 15 red runs, 24 blue ones and 3 green runs. This resort can be explored for week without ever ski the same run twice. The central position in the Portes du Soleil gives the possibility to enjoy Avoriaz but also the nearby Switzerland.
The advanced skiers won’t be disappointed in discovering the Swiss Wall which is one of the longest and bumpiest runs in Europe and plunging down to Switzerland.
The snowboarders will be also pleased as Avoriaz is often called the snowboard capital of Europe. It’s of the first areas to have a snowboard-only section, including a pipe, a park-and-ride area and its own lift.
For the children there is a choice of excellent skis schools and non-skiers can try sleigh rides, husky sledding, snow shoeing, snow-scooter, under ice diving, ice skating, Nordic walking or helicopter tours.
To complete a total wellness, there is a number of health clubs and spas which offering different types of relaxing massages, sauna and hammam.
The resort also offers a wide range of activities in the summer such as mountain biking, hot air ballooning, paragliding, via ferrata, canoeing, kayaking, golfing and hiking.
For the cultural entertainment there are several interesting events running through the year like a Jazz festival, street carnival and concerts.
Food & Drink
Meat and cheese feature heavily in Alpine cooking .Typical Savoryard restaurants has a number of tasty treats in store for those who like to sample some regional specialities like Fondue, Raclette (hot scrapes of cheese over potatoes and pickled onions) and Tartiflette.
Worth to try is also the Savoyard wines, flavoured apples and pears.
