Gordes – The place to be remembered
Gordes is a magnificent hill top town nestled in the heart of the Luberon, which undoubtedly deserves its title as being one of the ‘Most beautiful villages in France’. Standing proud on the southern slopes of Monts de Vaucluse, its astounding beauty is undeniable, and come spring, summer, autumn or winter this picturesque bastille town never fails to leave you somewhat awestruck by its aesthetic splendour.
Gordes is quite simply a magical place that embodies the quintessential France of an Englishman’s imagination. This is no doubt a town that is synonymous with Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’, which was written near Gordes. With its labyrinth of cobbled stone passageways (calades) and winding streets that transport you back to a distant past, it is impossible not to fall in love with this hilltop gem. The tiered stone settlement is made up of tall white and gray stone houses that spiral their way up around the central point of the town; a splendid castle dating from 1031 and rebuilt in 1525, providing a fine example of Medieval and Renaissance architecture.
The town is one of many sentinel towns of the Luberon region and retains all of its old character. It is particularly renowned for its high quality artistic and cultural activities. Gordes has provided inspiration for thousands of artists over the centuries, such as Andre Lhote, Marc Chagall, Jean Deyrolle, Victor Vasarel and Pol Mara to name but a few. There are plenty of exhibitions and galleries to muse over throughout the town and Gordes is also famous for its fine restaurants and cuisine if you feel like sampling the gastronomy of the region.
So why exactly would a leaseback in Gordes be such a good investment? Well the question barely needs to be posed when presented with such a stunning location. It is undeniably one of the most spectacular locations in France, with seven of the most beautiful villages in France being found within the Department of Vaucluse alone. It is thus not hard to see why this area is extremely popular with tourists and is such an internationally desirable location. Furthermore despite the influx of tourists in summer, the Gordes municipality does a wonderful job of looking after its heritage; something which it greatly prizes. You would therefore not have to worry about the possibility of the town losing its charm or culture.
Aesthetics aside, from a practical point of view, the town is extremely accessible too. Only an hour away from Marseille–Provence airport, it’s a mere 30 minutes from Avignon, 2 hours 40 minutes from Paris, and 2 hours from Nice and the Riviera. There are also train links and easy road access.
But the location is not all that this development has to offer and there are numerous other reasons why this particular investment is so attractive. The residence itself is a Prestige development, built in accordance with environmental building techniques and regulations, and stylistically in keeping with its impressive surroundings.
Built out of dry stone from the village and planted with green oaks, strawberry trees, tamarix and olive trees, the development is a tranquil, car free haven where you can relax in luxury. It also has all modern amenities, a heated pool and spa and all catering needs are provided for. All of this comes at a very reasonable price and not only gives you a beautiful property to enjoy in a sought after village, but also provides you with what promises to be a very exciting investment.
