Why not make use of this great opportunity to enjoy the Rhone region for a few days? Let yourself be captivated by the beauty of this region which has a lot to offer for visitors and even inhabitants! Here is a selection of places you can visit during the festival.

The medieval city of Pérouges

For centuries, Pérouges had been linked to Savoy. The legend says that the city was built by a Galic colony from Perugia, Italy. In 1468, the village resisted to the Dauphinois attack. The inhabitants protected the village and were rewarded for that: they did not have to pay taxes for 20 years. In 1601, Pérouges was linked to the kingdom of France thanks to the Lyon Treaty, signed between France, Spain and Savoy.

Today, the medieval city of Pérouges is classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France and is one of the most touristic places of the area. This former weavers’ city offers a typical medieval architecture with XV and XVI Centuries properties, cobblestone streets and the fortified Sainte-Marie-Madeleine church. At the center of the village, a lime tree was planted after the French Revolution, which represents liberty.

This cultural city has more than 80 historical monuments and offers animations like the Festival de Pérouges or the medieval festival. Some movies such as “The Three Musketeers” and “Angélique, Marquise des Anges” were also shot in Pérouges.

Lyon

European metropolis and capital city of the Rhone-Alpes region, Lyon has 2000 years of History. It was the capital city of Gaul, an international commercial center during the Middle Ages, an industrial city, and today a research city. Dynamic since its birth, Lyon also offers an incredible architectural and urban heritage.

The Condrieu area

The Condrieu area (South of the department) offers the exceptional Pilat Natural Park which has a museum and an archeological site. The region is also known for the views over the vineyards which dominate the Rhone River.

A beautiful landscape

The Rhone region has an incredible landscape with interesting reliefs made by hills, slopes and valleys. Nature offers amazing meadows, orchards and vineyards providing all regional specialties such as cherries, raspberries, vine peach, strawberries, and other red berries during summer. This diversified landscape allows a large number of activities: hiking, discovering aqueducts, chapels or typical villages. The vineyards generally produce the Beaujolais wine.

The Rhone region is a crossing point for the ones who go in the South of France for summer holidays, when there is a lot of traffic congestion. So why not taste the Rhone cuisine and other specialties?
