Has The Health Crisis Changed Our Relationship to Work ?
With the health crisis in mind, the important events of 2020 have enabled a lot of people to challenge their relationship to the environment, especially professional ones. Embedded procedures have been shaken up by administrative closures, partial unemployment and teleworking. The implications, always challenging, compelled a step back and pulled out new impulses. Are they viable and can our way of functioning internationally shift in the near future? Here are several responses.
Work during the second confinement
This fall, the country’s policy adopted was aimed at avoiding an upheaval as seen during the first confinement. The population and the economic environment have been hurt by loneliness and lack of activity, which is why, in particular, study has remained a law with improved health protection protocols. Let us discuss the implications inside businesses.
A rather face-to-face re-confinement
During the re-confinement, a poll undertaken by the versatile office leasing firm Deskeo shows that almost 90% of workers set foot in the office this time, at least regularly, far from the professional desert of the first confinement.
The call for teleworking was obtained in different forms inside successful organisations, between managers needing a regular appearance (38 percent), a rotation between workers (50 percent), or leaving the prospect of job adjustments. Staff gratitude (12 percent). Furthermore, the majority of staff (60% of them) state they are dissatisfied with the precautionary steps taken within their organisations for wellbeing.
Change the way you work?
It can be argued that the bet of preserving steady economic activity thus causing the amount of Covid-19 contaminations to drop dramatically thus seems to have been earned after reviewing the health figures at the beginning of December, and the barrier gestures in the office have demonstrated their value. In this way, efficiency. Even if we clearly deplore the utter lack of activity in some industries, as for many of our fellow people, this is catastrophic for the economy.
The inference that can be reached is that it is not vital to alter working practises to defend yourself from the virus. Rather, it may come from a change in beliefs. Yet one in two French individuals would prefer complete face-to-face activity in the long run, according to the Deskeo report, and just 11 percent say they are in favour of consistent and intensive teleworking. So this is not where we are going to look for important improvement.
Change your life, downright!
There is no shortage of motivations for seeking a shift of one’s working life, transport in cramped metropolises, employment in overwhelmingly big organisations or even a career that may not have the expected personal fulfilment in addition to income. It is not clear, though, to take steps, and only the future can reveal the full effect of the health crisis on this issue.
A stated desire for one in two assets
The Deskeo study reveals that a good number demonstrate a need for it in the desire for change: 57 percent of those surveyed said they wanted to travel, start a company or retrain. In the face of the challenges faced that have forced them to abandon their activities, others will have no choice: they will have to find another job or build their own.
This, however, is part of the continuation of the evolution of our working relationship, and only theories that are still there are strengthened by the health crisis. Let’s not forget that entrepreneurship in recent years has grown very dramatically. In 2019, the number of industry start-ups soared 17.9 percent, as a report in La Tribune pointed out in January 2020.
Sectors will benefit workers to the detriment of other trades, in a sense that is all the more desirable after the health and economic events of the year, much like competitive yet less saturated areas.
Concrete application
It could take two kinds of evolution to change everybody’s life. The first is a regional change. The train also makes it easy to enter the centre of metropolises remarkably fast, travelling away from major cities and their nuisances to reach the local or more remote countryside, with a change of employment, or not: For more dramatic reform, some would choose to scrub out a blank slate and move to a distant area.
Second, a dream work retraining, a freer task, mostly done separately. We can quote at the top of the list of industries acquiring employees who manage their own companies:
- Property, where there are systems that provide extensive trade and support training even when working as a self-employed person;
- Coaching, on the basis of possessing experience in a field, of course;
- Web careers for which, as long as there are services, remote training is possible;
- Craft trade, such as the design or installation, in particular, of creative ecological practices.
This list is by no means complete, and these transformations are encouraged by the streamlined laws of corporations that are very open and easy to handle (micro-enterprise, EIRL, etc.). A committed entity has a multitude of possibilities available!
The numbers for the year 2021, especially in terms of market creation, would show whether the health crisis has had a real effect on professional ambitions. As far as the internal organisation of firms is concerned, the introduction of the new teleworking technology could facilitate the relocation of those workers to regions farther away from the nerve centres – greener.
